Is trauma from your childhood affecting your current relationships?

Approximately 64 percent of adults in America report at least one childhood experience of trauma caused by abuse (emotional, physical, or sexual), neglect, witnessing violence, or household dysfunction.

ACES-Adverse Childhood Experiences Test - is a questionnaire that measures traumatic experience during childhood and their potential impact on adult social outcomes. It is not all inclusive, but helps identify some areas of concern.

Childhood experiences, especially trauma and attachment patterns significantly shape adult relationships, influencing trust, communication, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction.

ASPCC - American Society for the Positive Care of Children sponsors the ACES Quiz so you can determine if your relationships may be affected by your childhood. To learn more, take the Quiz:

Scoring Breakdown: Assign one number for each "yes" question and total the score. A 1-3 score is considered less problematic than a score above that. The closer the score goes to 10, the more likelihood of experiencing adult relationship problems as well as physical ailments later in life due to childhood trauma.

If you have been affected by childhood trauma and want lasting change, seek a therapist who specializes in trauma recovery.
